WCDC Officers and Executive Committee

Here’s our dedicated team of volunteer leaders.

Chair Paige Zeigler, Montville – Paige is the former State Representative for District 40, having served eight years. He takes the helm of Waldo County Democrats to “elect good legislators and public officials in office so that Mainers don’t have to worry about putting food on their table or paying for necessary medical help.”

Vice Chair Valerie Tate, Belfast – Valerie was an RN at an inner city hospital and became an organizer and labor leader of nurses. She retired as the Coordinator of the Nurse Alliance of SEIU Healthcare. Valerie is also on the Board of the Belfast Community Co-op. She served as Chair of WCDC’s Campaign Committee and as an Executive Committee member for several years.

Secretary Sarah Hardy, Stockton Springs – Sarah worked at the Jackson Laboratory and in Southern Maine in IT before retiring to Stockton Springs where she and her husband fill their time with home renovation projects and bowling in several leagues. She volunteers in Democratic committees at the State, County and Regional level, and as Secretary for the town’s Resilience Committee. She was an instigator for the formation of the Stockton Springs Community Benefit Agreement Committee and is helping with the town’s efforts to create a Community Garden. 

Treasurer Gail Chase, Unity – Chase is an auditor who served two terms as Maine State Auditor and two terms in the Maine House of Representatives, as well as on the boards of several local organizations. She is a graduate of Colby College.

DEIB-designated Executive Committee Member Barbara Finch, Searsport – As a former mental health and substance abuse counselor, Barbara worked with many of the most vulnerable of our community members, and witnessed firsthand the need for them to have good representation at the state level to advocate for their needs. The passion Barbara had in that career has found a new home as a member of the Waldo County Democrats and its DEI Committee.

At Large Executive Committee Member Cheryl Cassidy, Lincolnville – Cheryl has been a speech language pathologist for over twenty years and currently does teletherapy with school aged children, having received her M.A. from the University of Maine. She helped recruit and train interviewers for the Lincolnville Heart and Soul Project, conducting interviews and gathering stories from residents about what is important to them about living in Lincolnville. Cheryl is chair of the WCDC Engagement Committee and Municipal Chair of the Lincolnville Democratic Committee.

At Large Executive Committee Member Susan Conard, Northport – Sue retired from a career as a research ecologist and program leader for the US Forest Service and until recently served as editor of a scientific journal on wildland fire. She has served twice as a WCDC representative to the Maine Dems Platform Committee, is involved in our Bylaws, Campaign, and Engagement committees, has organized WCDC postcard outreach, and has experience in canvassing, phone banking and other activities.
