Hi Fellow Democrats!
Here’s a recap of our Waldo County Democratic Committee monthly meeting on January 12 at the Belfast Library.
Sara Salley gave a moving speech about her time as chair, detailing heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers who’ve made a difference during her tenure.
We presented a Letter of Recognition from Governor Mills to our outgoing officers Chair Sara Salley, Vice Chair Paul Robie, and Secretary Reeves Gilmore. Sara and Paul served as officers since 2019 and Reeves since 2014! They were instrumental in the growth and effectiveness of the Committee and making Waldo County Democrats a shining star in local action. Sara has since been elected Chair of the state party’s Finance Committee.
Congratulations to our new officers for 2025-2026! Chair Paige Zeigler, Vice Chair Valerie Tate, Treasurer Gail Chase (known as Chase), and Secretary Chris Marshall.
We also elected a number of new WCDC members. Additional members and at-large Executive Committee members will be elected at the next monthly meeting on February 9.
Representatives Jan Dodge and Mike Ray gave legislative reports. Visit our Advocacy page for guidance on tracking legislation and submitting testimony.
RSU71 School Board candidate Cooper Reed from Swanville attended with his second grader and introduced himself and his campaign. You can get involved in his campaign by emailing him at cooperthomasreed@gmail.com.
We voted to contribute funds to two groups helping people locally–Waldo County Woodshed, and But Still I Am One which is on a mission to empower young adults aged sixteen to twenty-one experiencing homelessness in Waldo County with temporary housing and other services.
We’re well positioned for action this election cycle, with a strong and growing group of volunteers and enthusiasm for running and winning in local elections. Please stay in touch! Info@waldocountydemocrats.com.
