June 2022 Meeting Summary

This month’s meeting featured lots of campaign updates and plans for a busy summer of events!

June 14 = Election Day! Primary elections are the main event, but there are also school board and budget elections in many towns. Support our outstanding local Democratic candidates and VOTE!

Volunteer opportunities abound! Rep. Paige Zeigler and Robyn Stanicki are still collecting $5 qualifying contributions for their Clean Elections campaigns. If you haven’t already, please make an online contribution with this link. Rep. Jan Dodge is looking for a few more drivers to help her knock on doors – please contact Paul Sheridan at sheridanpa@earthlink.net, 207-322-3961 (cell) or 207-338-0350 (home). Dan Jenkins, Organizing Director with the House Congressional Campaign Committee for CD2, gave us an update on Rep. Jared Golden’s campaign and invited voters to contact him at 207-577-1406 with any questions.

Waldo County Dems REPRESENT! Local Democrats did us proud at two recent events – the Belfast Pride Parade and the March For Our Lives demonstration against gun violence. Thank you to all who were able to participate.

Meet-the-Candidates Event on June 18 – RSVP here! Waldo County Democrats and friends (including unenrolled voters) are invited to attend a fun, outdoor, family-friendly event in Palermo this Saturday June 18 from noon to 4pm at the home of Melissa and JT Edwards, a joint effort of the China Maine, Kennebec County, and Waldo County Dems. Pam Swift, running for House District 62, will be the featured candidate, and you’ll also get to meet and mingle with Rep. Paige Zeigler, Robyn Stanicki, Jason Trundy, and Chip Curry, among other candidates and campaign reps. Join the fun – use this link to RSVP and get the event’s address. If you have any questions, email sarasalley@outlook.com.

Local organizing meetings launch this week! The Maine Dems are livestreaming a big kick-off event on Thursday June 16 at 5pm headlined by Governor Janet Mills and Senate President Troy Jackson – you can sign up here to get the kick-off link. Be sure to check Waldo County’s schedule of local meetings to get more details and find out when your town’s Democrats are getting together (the first meeting is Morrill’s on June 15, followed by Montville, Liberty and Freedom on the 16th). Besides meeting candidates, getting organized for the November elections, and forming a local committee, these meetings are how you can become a member of the county committee. Please RSVP to your town’s meeting here.

Give blood! Former WCDC member and officer Cooper Reed has organized a blood drive in memory of his grandfather Theodore Reed on Saturday June 25 from 9am to 2pm in Belmont at the Town Office, 613 Back Belmont Road. If you’re a blood donor, this is a beautiful way to honor Cooper’s grandfather, plus you’ll have a chance to say hi to Cooper. Rep. Jan Dodge is participating too!

Happy Fourth of July! Does your town have a 4th of July parade, picnic or other celebration? Please let us know – email sarasalley@outlook.com or satcove@gmail.com with all the details, so we can share it with our members and friends.

When are we meeting next?! With a full slate of local meetings going on across the county through mid-July, including the election of new county committee members, we’ve decided to cancel our regular July monthly meeting. Instead, our newly constituted county committee will meet on Sunday August 14 at 1pm. You can attend in person at Social Capital, 28 Spring Street in Belfast, or on Zoom by preregistering here. We’re also planning a big end-of-summer picnic for late August or early September – stay tuned!
