March 2022 Meeting Summary

Legislative Updates – the Legislature is in session and our legislators are busy working hard for YOU! Make sure to reach out to them if there are bills you care about. You can find their contact information on WCDC’s Elected Officials page. Some of the issues they’re addressing: PFAS contamination, rising energy costs, flavored tobacco products, and the state budget.

Campaign Updates – Our local candidates have qualified for the ballot, and thanked WCDC for helping them collect the ballot petition signatures they needed do it! Clean Elections candidates for the Legislature are collecting $5 qualifying contributions, and those who don’t have access to that public funding system are seeking support for their campaigns as well. Candidate Meeting – We met with Robyn Stanicki, running to represent the new District 38 that includes Unity, Thorndike, Jackson, Monroe, Swanville, western Frankfort, Waldo, Brooks and Knox. You can reach her at rsstanicki@gmail.com or through her website at https://robynformaine.com.

Caucus & Convention – Delegates elected in the online election process have been notified and invited to purchase tickets for the convention at $40 per person. There are some unfilled delegate slots that will be filled at our April 10 county committee meeting – email sarasalley@outlook.com if you’re interested. Opening the office – The committee authorized a renewal of our office lease, and we’re planning to re-open starting the first of May! Mary Lou Carhart is organizing a small team to clean-up, clear-out, and re-paint the office, and get it ready for campaign season. We also need people to staff 3-hour shifts once a week. Braver Angels Watch Party March 23 – We’re getting together (virtually) to watch a short online Braver Angels training course on having conversations with people across the aisle. It’s Wednesday March 23 at 7pm; click here to preregister.

Next WCDC Meeting – We’re going to try a hybrid meeting next month! Those who want to attend in person may do so at Social Capital, 28 Spring Street, in Belfast; those who want to continue attending on Zoom may click here to preregister. We meet on April 10 at 1pm.
