We kicked off our October meeting with updates from candidates Rep. Jan Dodge and Rep. Paige Zeigler, as well as campaign manager Gail Chase for House candidate Robyn Stanicki. Sen. Chip Curry sent his regards from the campaign trail, as did Sheriff candidate Jason Trundy and House candidates Maggie English-Flanagan and Pam Swift. Field Organizers Megan Marquis for the MDP and Will Boothby for Sen. Curry also told us about campaign needs. (More on that below.)
WCDC needs your help with our mass sign distribution this weekend. We’re putting all our candidates’ signs on roadways all over Waldo County on October 8 and 9 and we need more volunteers to make sure we reach every town. This is a fun way to show your support for our candidates and drive around our beautiful county for an hour or two! The dates are flexible, so if you can squeeze some time in on another day, we can make that work. Please contact Mary Lou Carhart at mlbrcarhart@gmail.com or 763-3311. If you can help assemble signs this week, that would be great too! Stop by the office any time we’re open (hours here).
Get Out The Vote is in the works! MDP Field Organizer Megan Marquis briefed us on the plan for a massive GOTV effort in Waldo County and across the state. Knocking on doors is the Number One volunteer need in every town, with phone calls a close second. These will be friendly conversations in the last week of the campaign reminding Democratic voters to make sure their absentee ballots are in or they are heading to the polls on November 8. Megan created an online form (https://forms.gle/DLQ9o5hZ5X74yTKE7) to make it easy to sign up for a shift, or you can stop by our office to sign up on paper (hours here). Either way you can contact Megan at mmarquis@mainedems.org or 414-306-5087. It’s time to dig deep and make sure we turn out ALL Dem voters – we’ll need every one of them for victory on November 8!
Canvassing across the county continues through October. The Golden campaign, Curry campaign, and Maine Dems are knocking on doors every weekend, and they REALLY need your help. You can find the full schedule of canvasses on our Calendar page (www.waldocountydemocrats.com/calendar), including the town, dates, times and contact information for the organizers, who are ready to answer any questions and help you get ready to knock on doors. If weekends don’t work for you, contact one of them to set something up that fits YOUR schedule!

The last parade of the campaign season is on Saturday October 8 in Searsport! Candidates on the ballot in Searsport will be at the Fling Into Fall event and would love to have your support. Parade lineup is 10am on Steamboat Ave. Sen. Chip Curry invites you to join him and wear your favorite plaid shirt. You can also be part of Team Trundy for Sheriff candidate Jason Trundy or accompany House candidate Maggie English-Flanagan. We’ll have Waldo County Dems t-shirts available for you there, or stop by the office this week to get one.
We have a new set of hand-painted yard signs at the office! Rachel Herbener and her team have painted an additional 14 unique and colorful yard signs to show your support for Democratic values, and send a message about the importance of voting at the same time. They’re fun, eye-catching, and available on a first-come first-served basis. They’ll go fast so don’t miss the chance to get one! Just stop by the office during our regular hours.
Our Get Out The Vote postcards are in the mail or will be soon. Sue Conard and Paul Robie have coordinated the design, printing, labeling, writing, and mailing of 2500 postcards to Dem-leaning but inconsistent voters among Democrats, Greens and the un-enrolled. We’re grateful for the outpouring of support from volunteers to get them in the mail!
Don’t forget to check out www.voteinmaine.com to get answers to all your ballot and election questions, sign up to be on the voter protection team, and find links to request a ballot, track your ballot, or find your polling location.
Our next meeting will be a post-election victory party on November 13 at 1pm – stay tuned for details!
